Bucketeer compared with other Mac apps

Bucketeer is a native Mac app for Amazon S3, S3-compatible storage and Azure Blob Storage that browses, transfers, mounts and syncs. The comparisons below put it next to six Mac apps people often consider for cloud storage, from transfer clients to Finder drives. Each one is built from the vendor's own pages and names its sources.

The comparisons

  • Bucketeer and Cyberduck compared

Cyberduck is an open-source browser for many protocols on Mac and Windows; Finder mounting is a separate app. Bucketeer focuses on object storage and adds Finder drives and scheduled sync.

  • Bucketeer and Transmit compared

Transmit is a dual-pane transfer app for many protocols, without Azure Blob Storage and without Finder mounting today. Bucketeer covers S3 and Azure Blob with Finder drives and sync.

  • Bucketeer and ForkLift compared

ForkLift is a dual-pane file manager with transfers to S3 and many other services. Bucketeer is focused on S3 and Azure Blob Storage, with versions, metadata and Finder drives.

  • Bucketeer and Mountain Duck compared

Mountain Duck mounts many kinds of storage in Finder and Windows Explorer. Bucketeer pairs a full object storage browser with Finder drives and sync jobs on the Mac.

  • Bucketeer and ExpanDrive compared

ExpanDrive mounts many cloud services as drives on Mac, Windows and Linux. Bucketeer adds Azure Blob Storage, sync jobs and client-side encryption for buckets on the Mac.

  • Bucketeer and CloudMounter compared

CloudMounter mounts many clouds as encrypted drives in Finder. Bucketeer adds Azure Blob Storage, a browser window and sync jobs for buckets.

The areas that matter most when you work with object storage on a Mac. Not documented means the vendor's pages do not say, not that the feature is missing.

Browser, drive or both?

Cyberduck, Transmit and ForkLift are file browsers and transfer clients. Mountain Duck, ExpanDrive and CloudMounter put storage into Finder as a drive. Bucketeer does both for object storage: a browser window with versions, metadata and a dashboard, and with Bucketeer Pro, buckets as drives in Finder.

If you need FTP, SFTP, WebDAV or consumer clouds such as Dropbox, the other apps cover them and Bucketeer does not.

S3 and Azure Blob Storage in one app

All six apps support Amazon S3. Azure Blob Storage is documented for Cyberduck and Mountain Duck; Transmit supports Azure File Shares but not Blob Storage, and ForkLift, ExpanDrive and CloudMounter do not document it. Bucketeer has its own Azure backend, and its sync jobs run between S3 and Azure.

Sync on a schedule

Cyberduck syncs folders by hand, Transmit by hand or through Automator, ForkLift syncs one-way or two-way, and the drive apps upload changes in the background. Bucketeer Pro runs sync jobs by hand, at launch, on a schedule or when a local folder changes, and watch folders upload every new file.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good S3 client for the Mac?

It depends on what else you need. For S3 and Azure Blob Storage with Finder drives and sync in one app, Bucketeer. For many protocols, Cyberduck or Transmit. For Finder drives across many services, Mountain Duck, ExpanDrive or CloudMounter.

Which Mac apps support Azure Blob Storage?

Of the apps compared here, Bucketeer, Cyberduck and Mountain Duck document Azure Blob Storage support. Transmit supports Azure File Shares only.

Why are there no prices in these comparisons?

Prices change often and differ by country. Each vendor shows its current prices on its own pages, and the comparisons describe only the pricing model, such as one-time license or subscription.

How these comparisons are made

Each comparison uses only the vendor's own website, documentation and, where one exists, Mac App Store listing, read in November 2026. Bucketeer is described from its documentation, limits included. Prices are left out on purpose: they change often and differ by country, and the vendors show the current ones on their own pages.
