Why is the provider a US LLC?
Because Bucketeer is made for use in many countries. Bucketeer is published by DigitalFreedom Global LLC, a company under the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA. That company is the provider and contracting party behind the app, in every country where you use it.
What this means for you as a Bucketeer user
Who your contract is with: you get Bucketeer and buy Bucketeer Pro in the Mac App Store. In the EU and EEA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Türkiye, Apple Distribution International Ltd. sells in its own name, so your purchase contract is with Apple. In every other App Store country Apple sells in our name, so the purchase contract is with us. The licence to use the app and the service it provides are always with DigitalFreedom Global LLC.
Your rights as a consumer: our licence agreement is governed by the law of Wyoming. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live. Refunds for purchases in the Mac App Store go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Where your data is: your credentials, encryption keys and settings are stored on your Mac. Your objects stay with the storage provider you choose. Bucketeer has no account, and we run no server between you and your storage.
Support: questions about the app go to support.apps.digitalfreedom.co.za, data protection requests to data-protection@digitalfreedom.co.za.
One provider in every country
Whether you use the app in Germany, Japan or Brazil, the company behind it is the same, with the same address.
Invoices to businesses in the EU without VAT: reverse charge
Purchases of Bucketeer Pro are processed and invoiced by Apple in the Mac App Store, including the VAT that applies, so your purchase comes with Apple’s invoice.
Reverse charge never applies to Bucketeer Pro purchases; it applies only where DigitalFreedom Global LLC invoices a business directly. The company is a business established outside the EU. Our invoices to businesses in the EU therefore show no VAT. The VAT is owed by the business customer under the reverse-charge procedure (in Germany under § 13b UStG), and every invoice carries the required notice “Steuerschuldnerschaft des Leistungsempfängers” (reverse charge). A business entitled to deduct input tax declares this VAT and deducts it in the same return, so it does not pre-finance any VAT. For this we need the business customer’s VAT identification number, which we verify before invoicing. Invoices to businesses outside the EU, for example in Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the USA, carry no EU VAT.
Simple international payment
In the Mac App Store, Apple handles the payment with the payment method in your Apple Account.
Early access to new technology
New platform features and AI services often launch in the USA first. Apple Intelligence, for example, started in US English in October 2024 and reached iPhone users in the EU in April 2025; iPhone Mirroring is still not available in the EU. As a US company we contract directly with US providers and can use new services as soon as they are offered to US businesses.
Data in Europe
The US seat does not move our servers. Our own infrastructure runs in data centres in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) and London (United Kingdom). The company’s own documents are kept in Microsoft 365, stored in Germany for business in Europe and in the United States for business elsewhere. Bucketeer does not use these servers at all: the app talks only to the storage endpoints you configure and to Apple for purchases, as the privacy policy sets out.
The address in Sheridan
